Petrochemical Industry Promotes  Economic Dev.t

Since reform and opening-up, the petrochemical industry of XJ relys on its abundant oil and gas resources and successfully built up Junggar,Tarim and Turpan-Hami oil and natural gas production bases.The Karamay-Dushanzi and some other large-sized processing bases are also formed.A batch of domestic famous enterprises that engaging in processing industry settled down in XJ and promoted the petroleum and petrochemical industry into a new development period.

Karamay Oilfield sits in Junggar Basin.Its scale on processing was only 100,000 tons plus at the beginning.In 2002,the crude oil output was over 10 mln tons.And it became the first 10-mln-ton oilfield in West China. Now its scale on processing has reached 5 mln tons.

Compared with that in 1978,the crude oil output in XJ Oilfield increases by 2.45 times,the natural gas,10.57 times.The processing crude oil was 8.84 mln tons in 2007, increasing by 5.28 times. The varieties of petroleum and petrochemical products were over 300.

Now Karamay has formed comparatively complete petroleum industry system, integrating with petroleum and natural gas exploration, engineering service,petroleum refining and petrochemical lower reaches product processing. Karamay has accumulatively produced 253 mln tons of crude oil, and nearly 40 bln cubic meters of natural gas.The processed crude oil has accumulated to 143 mln tons, and the ethylene was 2.355 mln tons.

Compared with Karamy Oilfield, although Tarim Oilfield was explored later, it developed faster depending on rich oil and gas resource.At the end of 2007,the gas  transport volume for west-east natural gas piping project was 15.5 bln cubic meters. Its natural gas production capability is designed to reach 18 bln cubic meters this year.

As the main place of Tarim Oilfield exploration and the gas source of west-east natural gas piping project, Bayangol Prefecture puts the development of petroleum and petrochemical industry in the first place of its five advantageous industries.Relying on Petrochina and Sinopec, Bayangol Prefecture has initially formed the industrial chain from petroleum and gas exploration to lower reaches products,trying to build the prefecture into the important part of the petrochemical base in South XJ. The oil and gas exploration also promotes the full-scale development of local economy and society. At present, 50% of the production value and 30% of local tax revenue of Bayangol Prefecture are from petroleum and petrochemical industry.

In 2007,the crude oil output in XJ was 26.04 mln tons,6.4 times more than that in 1978.The natural gas output was 21 bln cubic meters,increasing 82.7 times that in 1978.The gas transport volume for west-east natural gas piping project was increased to 13.7 bln cubic meters in 2007 from 600 mln cubic meters in 2004.In 2007,the added value of petrochemical industry had taken up nearly 70% of the scaled industries of XJ. It completed 204.54 bln yuan of industrial production value,about 1000 times that in 1978.
